Health Services
Welcome to the Health Room at Wayne Carle Middle School
Through Jeffco Health Services, Wayne Carle Middle School provides resources to support students and their families.
On this page, you will find information about what is needed to allow us to provide for your students health needs. If you have a question or would like to speak to the nurse or health aide about your student’s health needs, please reach us at the numbers listed.
Parents should bring any health concerns to the attention of the health aide or nurse. The purpose of the health room is to provide first aid and to screen students complaining of an illness. It is imperative that someone be available and prepared to pick up their student in the event of illness or accident. A sick student must be picked up within 30 minutes of the school contacting the parent or designated adult. Our school does not have facilities to keep students who are contagious or so ill that they need to be home.
If your child shows signs of illness at home, please take the time to assess their symptoms prior to sending them to school. For further information on whether or not to keep your child home, please refer to the document 'How Sick is Too Sick.'
All medications, including over-the-counter medication (ibuprofen/Tylenol, cough drops, cold medicine, etc.), must be checked into the health room by a parent/guardian and still in the original container that it was purchased in. A medication agreement form will need to be completed by the parent/guardian and physician. These forms are available in the health room or you may download a copy on the medical forms page.

Mental Health Supports
Wayne Carle promotes a safe, positive learning environment by supporting mental health.
Jeffco Public Schools recognizes the growing concern with injuries resulting in concussion or concussion-like symptoms. Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), or concussion, in children is a rapidly growing public health concern.
Jeffco Public Schools partners with Hazel Health, Inc. to provide free, additional physical and mental health care services for students. This a telehealth extension of support to Jeffco students enrolled at district-managed schools.
Jeffco Public Schools' Certified Application Assistance Site (CAAS) operates through the Jeffco Public Schools Community and Family Connections (CFC) program. CFC assists any individuals inquiring about Health First Colorado (Medicaid), Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) and other health-related resources.
Hearing and vision screenings are conducted for students in their schools according to the Colorado Department of Education guidelines.
The Department of Health Services at Jeffco Public Schools recognizes that any student or family can have lice. Jeffco’s district nurses follow several protocols and are an excellent resource for school administration, teachers, parents and families.
Parents and guardians of Jeffco Public Schools students can purchase student accident, athletic and dental insurance coverage.
Health Services in Jeffco
Jeffco Public Schools' Department of Health Services provides health consultation and resources to support students and their families.
Each school has a district Registered Nurse (RN) who consults with students, families, school staff and administration. Ask your student’s school for their district RN contact details and notify the RN if your student has a health need that requires support during the school day.
Each school also has a school health aide who does day-to-day care of students such as medication, Band-Aids, and ice.
Keep your student’s health concerns updated at registration and as conditions change during the school year. It is important for Jeffco to have current contact information of families.
When Students and Staff Should Stay Home
Jeffco follows the recommendations from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on when students and staff should stay home from school, work or childcare. District RNs provide guidance to school administration following the How Sick is Too Sick document.
The best ways to stop the spread of infection is through good hand washing and staying home when sick.
Immunizations
Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed childcare centers to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a medical or non-medical exemption is filed.
For information about vaccine requirements, resources and exemptions, visit the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s School-Required Vaccines page.
